We got caught in the massive power outage last week, and coming into work this morning the server wouldn't boot. The boot process ends with checking the root filesystem (check forced, errors found on the filesystem) after which it reports duplicated blocks and then the process goes into a new line with nothing on it and stops there indefinitely with a blinking cursor.
The system is an old PIII 500EB with lots of RAM and a pair of 40GB hard disks in a RAID0 array.
The screen looks something like this:
| ========================= 57%|
/:
Duplicate blocks found... invoking duplicate block passes
Pass 1B: Rescan for duplicate/bad blocks
I was able to boot the machine using a rescue cd and have been trying to fix the filesystem for the last 3 hours (finger steadily on the enter key) with no end in sight.
What I need to know is if I am on the right track or if the entire installation is fubar'ed and only a complete re-install on new drives will bring it back to life. Although I have backups of the data, I would prefer to not have to go that route.
Any advise or information is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
