Actually I rebooted specifically to clear DHCP leases; running through the config as "admin" without changing anything and telling the machine to clear all leases is the easiest way I know to do that.
Yes, that's no doubt the kludgy and clunky way to do it ... but what the heck, it worked. I've also rebooted after installing various software packages, just in case. (Windoze habit, I guess.)
As for why I needed to clear DHCP ... this may be "too much information" but lots of machines pass through my home workshop and grab a lease on the way through, never to be seen again.
