Mitel *never* announces releases ahead of time. A complex server package should be in beta for a longish time to make sure that all (ahem) the critical and major bugs have been found and fixed. As a server is supposed to stay up for a long time, some instabilities may appear after e.g. 5 weeks and you can only find those by running the servers. People who buy the commercial product expect to turn it on, set it up, and leave it in a dark room.

I had a kernel crash after about 80 days with 5.6u4, so now I'm anxiously  waiting for that time to come around again. Only 35 more days to go ...

My 5.6u4 stayed up for 94 days before I rebooted it.

JUst wondering..  Did you have your SME system running on RAID ?  And you still need to reboot?

Mine is running on RAID and periodically, when there's a power-failure, the system reboots and the RAID monitor starts resyncing..

Well mine does not have raid and I can honestly say that I have never had my SME server crash and I've been using it for  2 years now.

I do  keep upto date with all the upgrades and am at present running 6.0beta3. However when/if 6.0 ever gets into the non-commercial user community I do aim to do a fresh install.

The only time it has stopped since Christmas was a few weeks back when I came by some more RAM sticks for it and performed an upgrade.

Actually I rebooted specifically to clear DHCP leases; running through the config as "admin" without changing anything and telling the machine to clear all leases is the easiest way I know to do that.

Yes, that's no doubt the kludgy and clunky way to do it ... but what the heck, it worked.  I've also rebooted after installing various software packages, just in case.  (Windoze habit, I guess.)  

As for why I needed to clear DHCP ... this may be "too much information" but lots of machines pass through my home workshop and grab a lease on the way through, never to be seen again.

You don't need to reboot the clear the dhcp leases, there is a contrib that you can use.  Search for dhcp at contribs.org and look for DHCP Manager.  It allows you to clear dhcp leases and a few other things.  If you can't find it look at http://www.developit.fr/FichePratique/SMEServer/index.html

The site is not in english but all you need to do is find the following packages, download and install them.
e-smith-dhcpmanager-1.2-8
perl-Net-Ping-2.24-1
wol-0.6.0-3

If you don't want to install that why don't you just set a small rather than large dhcp pool. I have 4pc's on my lan and 2 vpn clients.  My main PC gets a static ip address and the others get dhcp. Despite that I have a pool of 10 iup addresses. The leases file fills up occasionaly as I also run virtual computers but I've yet to have a problem.  Besides, as I understand it the dhcp server on SME clears the leases file out at timed intervals.

So, I believe beta 3 has been out for 45 days now.  Someone posted here that 6.0 was supposed to be GA on 9/1, but was delayed because of a last minute bug.  Hopefully the release date will be measured in days and not months at this point.

Hmm...

UPS will last around 30 minutes of power..  Power failures lasts an hour or more (When you're unlucky that is)...  Sometimes you're in a catch-22 situation.

but you can get an APC Smartups and install the package to monitor and shutdown automatically your server!!
