5.6 and Dell Poweredge 600sc nic
« on: September 16, 2003, 06:05:55 AM »
Hi,
I just purchased a new Poweredge 600sc and Im trying to install E-smith 5.6.  I have both the onboard nic (gig I believe) and I requested the additional nic (Intel Pro 100S NIC)  I want to set one up as the internal interface and one as the interface to the internet.  How do I go about this?
The installer says it detected 2 nics and lists them as:

unknown (driver unknown)
and
Inter Corp.|82557/8/9 [Ethernet Pro 100] (driver eepro100)

Do I need to install a driver?  If so hwo do I get past the setup to the point where I can DL a driver?  Is the detected dirver correct?  Any input is welcome and thank you very much

Had the same prob.
easiest process is to disable the onboard card
and install an additional compatible card
$20 card is cheaper than your time to configure a driver for the gig interface

the files found at the above location works, you want e1000, not e100.

Ben,

It take about 2 minutes to install the RPM listed above and reboot.  I have about  8 of these server running with this driver.  One is on a full gigabit network (switches and all) there is no additional configuration beyond intalling the RPM and telling the server to use that driver to get the full gigabit speeds.

The driver is already installed.
You just need to manually set either EthernetDriver1 or EthernetDriver2.
My servers have two e1000 Nics, so I set both.

/sbin/e-smith/db configuration set EthernetDriver1 e1000
/sbin/e-smith/db configuration set EthernetDriver2 e1000
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event console-save

I rebooted the server and the NICs both work....
