Does anyone know if there have been any specific tweaks to the version of SME Server shipped by Compaq (such as here: http://h18020.www1.hp.com/newsroom/pr/2001/pr2001090401.html ) and here: http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/Linux/enduser.html

I'm looking to buy a Compaq server on the second hand market and wanting to run SME Server but have read stories of people with RAID cards and Gb cards having a difficult time. I guess I'm wondering if the distribution that Compaq/HP shipped was tweaked to ensure a smooth ride.

It certainly doesn't have a problem on older models, such as Proliant 3000 with a smart 2 or 3 controller.  Not sure about the on-board network cards on some of the machines though.

Matt,

I don't have any compaq servers running on my network right now but I do use a couple older compaq raid cards, the 2/P and 2/DH.  SME recognized the cards and loaded the correct drivers out of the box, no custom setups or anything like that.

Cheers for the replies. I'm looking at a server a little more recent, like a Xeon based ML350-G3 with a SmartRAID 530x series RAID controller. I guess it'll be a case of suck it and see.
