How do I run a domain name on e-Smith 6.0 Beta 3 with a dynamic IP?

I would like to use HostWay.com.

Also, please keep in mind I'm a beginner in Linux. :)

Hello

I don't know about hostway.com as I use zoneedit for my dynamic dns but it pretty easy to do but you need to discribe your system for more detailed help

dial-up
dsl
cable

modem
router

firewall

how is your sme box setup

basic info to read

internet must get to your sme box - hub router somehow
dynamic dns service needs to be updated when your ip address changes - there are several ways to get this done

do you have the domain name yet it looks like hostway dones't do dynamic dns to me

name your box this will depend on what dydns service you us
zoneedit it doesn't matter dydns it does

example !!!

box.domain.com
ip address 192.168.1.10

go to zoneedit get an account first 5 domains free

setup your domain name and get the dns server names & ip addresses write it down you will need to change your name server info wherever you got your domain name I use namesforever.com
or aplus networks cheap and easy great support and web access to make any changes

you will need your current dyn ip address to get this started working

zoneedit example !!!

www       domain.com      123.123.123.123 this is your dynamic ip
ftp          domain.com       same ip address
mail        domain.com       same ip address

if you use different servers for www ftp mail you have to port forward from your router or gateway

a sme server can act as a gateway if you install 2 network cards
and it is a simple way to do what you want but can cause a heavy load if it has to do everything

PS

there are contribs to make your sme box update dydns or zoneedit

hope this is some help
