Network Traffic
« on: October 09, 2003, 03:38:23 PM »
I'm curently monitoring the traffic on my e-smith box using IBmonitor - which I find to be a very useful utility. I have noticed that on the external interface, I appear to be recieving around 6Mb and hour which seems a rather large amount.

I am running the defaul website (which has no hits) and a phpBB2 forum (which again has no hits).. Other than that I just run a mail server...

Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this traffic?

Thanks in advance
Howard

Do a search for Disabling ICMP or Disabling PING on SME as it sounds like you are getting PING traffic from one of the latest virus hitting Windows PC's. If you are also running AWSTATS you will also see thousands of hits on the primary site but no increase in hits on any virtual site. Had the same problem a few weeks back and disabling ping echo on everything except the router caused the traffic to drop away.
