Topic: New Proliant error?

I've conquered the old memory error, but this one is new. I'm stuck at the install here. After entering the typical "accept mem blah blah" the install attempts to start and I get the following errors (same error with RedHat 9 by the way):
error 2 reading header: cpio: Bad magic
This error repeats a bunch of times on the blue screen, then the black screan underneath seems to indicate that it bombs while running anaconda.

System stats:
Compaq Proliant 2500 w/ 2x200 PPro
Smart 2/P RAID Array controller
256M RAM
Latest SmartStart additions, system type: Linux (in BIOS)
On board SCSI controller w/tape backup has been enabled/disabled

Yeah, I've been all over the place searching for this. I've got three 2500's and all have the same issue.

I guess I'm going to have to give up and go with some type of winders on these machines. I'm at a dead end now, can't find any information on this error.

I had the same problem today on a 1GHZ  P3 home build. The error was caused by using a CD burner to install from, changed to a normal cd-rom all worked o.k.

A CD/RW drive can appear as a SCSI drive even on an IDE bus and confuse the loader program.

I have an error with Anaconda during the sme intallation (v 5.6 and 6.0, no problem with 5.5 et 5.1.2), after the detection of SCSI raid (cpqarray module) et SCSI ( synxxx module).

PIII 500 MHz with 650 Mo RAM EC
Compaq SMART 221 (raid 5)
CD-Rom IDE
1 x Network card compaq NIC
1 x Network card 3com

Cedric,

This problem was with my CD Rom the whole time. It stopped at the same point as yours. I swapped the standard Proliant CD Rom with a new 52x one and it worked fine. Thanks Ray!
