Topic: SME and Exchange Server with AD

I wish to set up SME 6.0.1 as the front-end for an Exchange server 2000 with AD, and also as a file server for a small network of 10 users. Workstations are win2000 and winxp pro, and are connected to AD for now. I would be glad if anyone can help me out with the following issues:

1. What is the best way to configure this setup since SME can not participate with AD?

2. Is it better to setup similar e-mail addresses in the SME and then forward the mails to the Exchange, or should I just delegate mails to the Exchange? I plan to sanitize the mails with Clamav and spam filter in the SME before sending to the Exchange.

Are sure you need AD for only 10 users?
I would use SME for domain logons, e-mail, firewall etc.. and redo Win2000 server as a member server for this new domain if needed for aplications and file storage.

Thanks Boris for your speedy response. I suggested the same thing but the owner of the company wants to keep the Exchange server - he paid a lot of M$$$$ for the Exchange server 2000 enterprise edition. Can you suggest a potential configuration for SME as front-end.

Set up SME as your firewall/gateway if you don't have one and delegate e-mail handling to internal exchange server via server-manager. No need for accounts on SME, just domains, so it will accept e-mail, filter it with AntiVirus/Spam filters and forward to internal Exchange for distribution to mailboxes.
