Harddrive upgrade

I have an e-smith 5.6 box and I would like to upgrade the harddrive to a larger drive.

I was wondering what is the best approach to do this?

Specifically I was thinking that the way to do this would be to backup the server to a workstation through the server manager. Then shut down server, remove old hard drive, insert new hard drive, reinstall 5.6 then restore from back up. Will this work? Does the back up restore all the custom templates and such?

FYI, I have a custom disk mirroring system, see http://www.cardaysupply.com/products/displayProduct.asp?id=19,  such that I can not simply add a second hard drive. Thus I need to remove old hard drive and insert new one(s).

Thanks

there are several tools to save an image of your harddrive to CD or a network-drive.
then you can restore that image to your new disk, and then resize the partition so you can use the whole disk.
try norton ghost...

I'd suggest these steps:

1. Put a new large HDD in the bottom tray of your raid unit.
2. Let the auto-mirroring from the top drive to the bottom one finish.
3. Remove the top drive.
4. Using partition magic 8, expand your "/" partition on the bottom drive out to the remainder of the unused space on the new drive.
5. Now put a new, large hdd into the top tray and install it.
6. let the auto-mirroring finish from the bottom drive to the top.

Don't know if this will work on your raid unit, but it should, Specifically, if step 2 works, you are home free, and you won't have to sweat over bad backups and restores.
