trying to use CuteFTP to ftp to E-smith DEV6B3 I'm trying to use my root and admin name as the it and the password but it keep on asking me for the password as though I have it wrong. I'm doing this from the local network.

maybe your root is not allowed to sign in as ftp-user.
check the user-permissions and login-settings in the server-manager.

if that dows not help, try to login as another user.

FTP is plain-text, not a good idea to pass root level username/passwords over plain-text channels.  I recommend you look into WinSCP/SCP.
