thats his ftp contrib directory, I wanted the page that shows links to the rpms and describes the procedures

How about this then?:

ftp://ftp.e-smith.net/pub/e-smith/contrib/RPMindex/ByName.html

Its an .rpm index file, order by name, each of which contains a brief blurb on the contributed .rpm files
