Hi All,

My domain is hosted by a web hosting company (ie. not on my server) and I want my SME 5.6 server to collect my email from the pop3 mailbox they provide, but the pop address is mail.mydomain.com, the same as my SME server. Question are will it work if I just set it up in email retrieval in server manager or do I have to do something else. If I set my server domain to something like mydomain.org and add mydomain.com as a virtual domain would this solve the problem? (if there is one!) I hope I have made myself clear.

Regards,

USe the ip address instead. Tracert or ping the mail.xxxx.com from outside your network to find the ip address...

Hi jonnybbl,

Thanks for the information, I did a search on google for tracert, am I correct in saying that from a dos prompt on my windows machine I type:
tracert mail.mydomain.com
Can I run this from my SME server command line?
Thanks again for your help.

Del

Not if your SME box thinks that it is mail.yourdomain.com

Try the ip address method or change the conf of mail.domain.com to point to the address of you pop3 mailbox. Do this in the server manager.  Just make sure that your clients then don't try and access the mailbox from the SME server by getting their mail from mail.domain.com. Make them get it from domian.com.

Hope that makes sense.
