I just installed SME server 5.6 and enabled VPN to allow telnet connections into my local AIX server (which is behind an ISA firewall and has a non-routable IP address in the 172.16.0.0 range). My SME is on the external network and on the ISA firewall network.
The VPN connects fine but when I telnet or ssh into any machine in my local network the telnet/ssh session locks up. I installed all of the updates for 5.6 and the problem is still occuring. I assumed the PPTP reliability patch would have fixed the issue. I can ssh into the external interface of the SME box just fine. If I ssh into the local interface over VPN it locks up at random in the same manner as the telnet session to my AIX box.
The problem occurs with all Win2k and WinXP VPN clients using windows telnet, putty, multiview, and ssh or whatever. It seems to happen in all terminal programs that I have tried so I doubt it's a terminal program problem.
The local network and domain login works just fine. Meaning I can copy files from the file server and print to printers over the VPN.
I have never seen this problem occur on any of the other networks I have ever used PPTP VPN on so I am confused.
Any help will be appreciated.
