moving to 6.0 on a Shuttle XPC

A while back, a number of listers kindly offered useful advice about my entry into DIY box building. Here is a bit of follow up:

Against the advice of seasoned box builders, I built a Shuttle SB62G2 for SME server. The case comes loaded with two NICs, decent on board video, and some other stuff.  I added 1GB ram, P4 2.4ghz, 2 x 80GB SATA Seagate Barracuda hard drives, and CD-ROM.

SME 6.0 loaded without a hitch once I set the BIOS to boot from CD first and enabled USB keyboard.

Now I want to transfer the 5.6 server data to the new 6.0 machine. I posted a note under another thread but no one responded so either the topic is dead, no one saw it, or I am (again) living in dream.

I read elSpike's how-to. Sounds like the ticket but I wonder if there is more to it. Any one care to comment?

I have just upgraded my 5.6 to 6.0 no troubles, but I did copy all the info to my local PC's drive and did a configuration backup in cae it went pear-shaped.

Hi Mark,

if you care to try elSpike's how-to go for it, but I would like to warn you of the "--delete" command as it does delete all your data from the old server. elSpike rightly suggests to read the rsync man pages, and stupidly I did not do it and just plunged into it. However, for some reason that now I don't remember anymore (it was some time ago) the rsyncing into the new server did not go well, and of course deleted all my data from the old drive. I did have though the backup to desktop which saved the emails, accounts and so on.

I sent an email to elspike today, and he promised to put a warning on his how-to about the delete command as soon as he can...of course for the stupids like me.

Thanks for the replies. I will read the advice and give it go tomorrow.
