Printer setup

Is all this discussion of printer setup assuming the printer is attached to the e-smith server.  We have two printer attached to Windows consoles and we just setup the printer for sharing and we can now print across the network.  Our linux consoles can print across the network also after a painless setup.  I have never configured printers from the e-smith-manager.  Is this only for printers attached to the e-smith computer?
On another printing tangent, how do I get Mac's to print across the network.

Please see discussion on "o/t - recommended printer?" in this section.

I did read that thread and these were the questions that I was left with.

1.  Has the discussion on printers assumed that the printer is on the e-smith server?  I newver had to do any setup but as I said the priners tha we use are conn3ected to windoze computers.

2.  No on has mentioned Mac printing. I mean if we attach a printer to the e-smith box will we be able to select it in the Mac chooser?

Printers which are connected to windoze computers are completely independent of the e-smith server. However, there are advantages in connecting the printer directly to the e-smith server, rather than running it connected to a windoze computer. See this post for example:

Yes, all printers configured in e-smith should show up in the chooser.

I,too, have had a problem getting appletalk network printers to work with e-smith.  The printer queues set up fine, the spooler shows up on the mac as a print spool, and when I send a print job to the spooler I can see disk activity on the e-smith.  Unfortunately, the print job just sits on the e-smith.  Even when I have the ip and the appletalk printer name, it just sits there.  Another problem with the current e-smith setup is that many appletalk printer names have spaces and uppercase letters as the first letter (Agfa Avantra II, DuoProof, Unity 1200XL, etc.)  There is no provision in the e-smith set for these names.  Many times there is no ip number, also.

Any input on this is most appreciated.  Thanks!
