http.conf

Well, I deleted an ibay and when I reset my computer it came up with the following error when the httpd service tries to start:

Syntax Error on line 584 of /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf NameVirtualHost takes one argument, a numeric IP address:ports, or the name of a host

What could this problem be.  It sounds to me (and I'm not a linux expert) that the something went wrong when I deleted the I bay and the httpd.conf file was not re-built properly.

Here is what that region of the file says starting with ln 582:

NameVirtualHost

I tried commenting those lines out and that didn't work.  I tried expanding the template (something I saw when I searched through the forums) by running:

/sbin/e-smith/expand-template /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf

That didn't work, so I'm still getting the original error.  How can I fix this?

By the way, everything is working great.

Please check in /var/log/messages for any errors reported from the processing of templates.

Yes, that's what it looks like. It may be a bug in e-smith, and if so, we'd like to track it down and fix it ASAP.

Please explain what "didn't work" means. Did expand-template report errors, or did it just not fix the problem.

I'm glad to hear it.

That symptom looks like what I would expect if you somehow did not have a definition for the local network IP address of the server in the system configuration database. Please re-run the configuration wizard on the console; the console will either be showing as standard, or you will need to login as "admin" to see it.

Once you complete the configuration, your problem should have gone away.

A little of the subject, but I subscribed to the mailing lists to get all of thease messages sent to my e-mail and I used the address lists@noattention.com but it sends all the mail to admin@noattention.com

Why?

Way off-topic, I'd say. A new thread would be better.

You also sent mail to the list owner and I have replied.

It all looks fine at this end - lists@noattention.com is subscribed.

What happens if *you* send email to lists@noattention.com?

My guess is that such email goes to admin@noattention.com, as there is no user or alias called "lists" set up on your machine. You have "Email to unknown users" set to "admin", and you don't have a "Forwarding address for administrative notices" set.

Actuall, I created a user "lists" just for my mailing lists.  I don't exactly know how to setup aliases yet so that can't be it.

The same thing happened when I was signed up on the lists with my normal address: dan@noattention.com.

I checked the "messages" log and I see where the ibay was deleted and right after the ibay was removed there are alot of "Use of unititialized value" errors.

What other information is needed?  I can send any files if needed for determining what went wrong.  Thanks for the help.

Dan has sent me the full headers. He is using fetchmail/multidrop
and fetchmail is not recognising the lists address as local. This is
strange.

multidrop and mailing lists don't mix unless the ISP
adds specific headers to tag each message. However, it should work
in this case as there is a user called "lists".

This needs more investigation....

Indeed, but so is Dan's configuration file - only 6 lines long. Unless we are talking about two different systems.

I expect it to go away once Dan reconfigures his system.

Same system.

I recongifed my system.  Still have the same problem with the mailing list, everything going to admin@noattention.com.  The lists@noattention.com works for regular mail.  I was having this problem long before I had problems with my config file.

It's an annoying problem, what could it be?
