Topic: Virtual domain email failure

Greetings E-Smithians,

Firstly, I'd just like to say how absolutley gobsmacked by e-smith. Absolute breeze to set-up and Web admn that actually works. Keep up the good work, E-smith:-)

Secondly, another problem with virtual domain email:-( I have two domains hosted on an external server (one of which is my main e-smith domain), which I pick up from my ISP's POP server. Unfortunately, e-smith is unable to deliver mail to the second domain. If I use my ISP's smtp server, admin gets an error, saying 'recipient address user1@domain2.com didn't match any local name'. If I use e-smith as the smtp server both addresses work OK and mail gets delivered to user1

From a previous message on the forums here, I've checked the locals and rcpthosts files in /var/qmail/control and these both contain info for both domains, so the set-up seems OK and as I said it works if I use the smtp server on e-smith. It just seems to be when I pick up the email form my ISPs server.

Can anyone shed any light as where I need to look pls?

Can you please explain exactly what you mean when you say "I use the smtp server on e-smith/I use my ISP's smtp server"? Do you mean when you send outgoing email from a machine on your LAN? If so, what happens when outsiders send email to user1@domain2.com? If they also get a bounce, the problem is likely to be with MX records in DNS, or configuration of your ISP's mail system, and nothing to do with the e-smith server at all.

Apologies for the ambiguity.

1. If I set my mail client to connect to the e-smith smtp server and send mail to user1 using either domain, then that mail gets delivered.

2. If I set my email client to use my ISP's SMTP server, then when e-smith uses POP to collect that mail then user1@primary domain is delivered OK, but user1@virtualdomain fails and appears in admin's mailbox as a non-deliverable.

After doing some more testing, I think the problems lies with the way the headers are appearing when the mail is picked up from my ISP as my e-smith sort method is set to X-Delivered-To, which does not seem to appear in the headers of the duff mail.
