I just setup an e-smith server 4.0 using an AT&T cable modem, my third installation. The server verified that I had a good Internet connection. Both workstations running Windows 98 ME are on the e-smith network and working fine. One workstation is on the Internet and working fine. The other isn't so good. I can ping addresses on the internet, the AT&T servers, etc. but the browser can not find any site. When the browser IE 5.5 attempts to connect it converts www.yahoo.com to its proper IP address, so I guess it gets to the DNS server but then it hangs. I can ping the static IP from another server at a remote location. I have removed TCP/IP and reninstalled it. Checked all the settings, and they are identical to the workstation that works, any ideas?  TIA  :-))

Are you saying it should be selected? In my other e-smith installations with a cable modem all proxy setting are blank.

it will work either way, if you want to use the squid proxy server that comes setup with e-smith, put the e-smith ip address in the IE proxy settings, if you want to directly access http, then leave it blank

if some clients are working and others not, as you descibed, it is probably a network properties setting on the windows pc, verify all you network settings are the same as the working pc's

Thank you for the suggestions. The workstation in question had at one time been on an NT network under Proxy II. All network setting had been removed. However the proxy client had never been uninstalled. That is what was causing the problem. Thanks for the help.
