modem init string
« on: October 24, 2000, 05:15:37 AM »
Gentlemen,

As I have relocated and adsl is not available where I am I now have to use 56k dialup...:(

The standard modem string I have noticed has the speaker off and the volume level set to 0. Whilst I have found where to edit the string on a temporary basis but not where the teplate gets its info from. Does someone know, and I know someone does...:)... where I could find the file to do this mod and add also &C1&D2 to also.

Many thanks,
Cameron Stacey

To enable the modem speak, just do:

/sbin/e-smith/config set DebugPPP yes
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event console-save

To set &C1&D2, use "minicom" to make these the reset defaults:

AT&F
AT&C1&D2
AT&W

(if I've remembered correctly).

I want to change the volume level on the init string from 0 to 3, I have set the modem defaults to this value but I have found that the 10globals part overides these settings, I have edited the line but now I dont know what command to use to make the 10globals work, I have tried /sin/e-smith/expand-templates
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/chat-ppp0 but this resulted in garble from the modem on connect and would fail, did also notce that it informs me of connects speed 115000 (just fyi).

Can someone please tell me the line to use to make it work please.

Kind Regards,
