transparent proxy with logging analysis?
« on: October 27, 2000, 06:07:17 PM »
I have e-smith 4.0 with the base update & the transparent proxy installed as well. It is working great, and the transparent proxy even helped solve an FTP problem with my Cisco router that did not allow control connections over port 21 due to an ACL restriction.

Question: How can I quantify the amount of time a user spends "surfing"? I don't want to be a "Big Brother", but I have one user who surfs constantly unless someone is in his cube with him... As I type this message, the tail on /var/log/squid/access.log hasn't stopped scrolling for about 45 minutes straight .... Hopefully, once this can be presented to him, he can tone it down.

I know calamari will process these logs, but a knowledge of perl is required to customize them, which is a problem for me to do. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance
