APOP - Secure POP3/IMAP??

Hi All,

I tried a few days ago to add APOP services to e-smith.

Admittedly I did this in a very slack way!  I just added the password file required for it but POP3D as per my red hat Linux bible.

Anyway after checking numerous options in Outlook 2000, I think I =may= of got it working.  I had to try combinations of "use SSL" and use "APOP".

I say I think it worked as I managed to check email?  Though I could never repeat it - I may have been to tired and not set APOP in outlook?  Outlook is also not worth it's time either!

So is it supported??

As currently I have to make an additional account that is =NEVER= used to check mail as my only login account for SSH, so that I can SU to do admin.  If I used that account for email and somebody was sniffing - well we all know what could happen......

I would like to be able to run APOP and use my normal account.  And I guess be able to add that little bit extra level of security for remote email checkers.

Cheers,
Richard.

Did you ever get this working or look at the 4.5 beta2 version?  I dont know if this is a feature in the new beta but it had a few additional security features it seemed.

If I remember it had out of the box secure web based mail client, maybe it added APOP.
