I added a custom runlevel 8 where fewer services are started than in the standard e-smith runlevel 7 (did this for reasons of security and performance). On booting into the new runlevel everything seems to be alright, but ps reported some of the servers that aren't in my rc8.d were started anyway. Turns out they are started by the event ip-change. What I'd like to do is add a few lines to some of the actions that are signalled by this event so that the actions will only run in runlevel 7 (this way runlevel 7 will stay intact). Could someone on this board tell me if this is the right way to do what I want to do and, if so, what lines I should add to specify the runlevel for an action to run in.

If you are going to this level, I seriously suggest you look at the latest
e-smith 4.1 beta which allows you enable/disable all services.
Please see the announcement on www.e-smith.org and follow up on the

That sounds like a great addition. I'm definitely impressed with all the stuff that's in e-smith 4.1, but I really want to stay with the tried and tested stable version, which has been performing perfectly for me. While we wait for 4.1 to come out, is there still a way to stop unwanted services from starting up in my custom runlevel?
Thanks,
