Title: getting e-mail
Post by: Booker Hinton on October 18, 2000, 08:24:39 AM
I cannot receive e-mail from outside my intranet. I do not have a registered domain as yet. I wonder what the correct syntax one should use when sending e-mail to me thru the e-smith server. I have a mail account set-up in netscape messenger to handle mail...Is this necessary? I would rather just use qmail. I have an account set-up as admin. and one as nayo.

Thank you for any assistance.

I dont think so that you will be able to recieved e-mails from outside your intranet if you dont have the registered domain. all you can have is an email for your intranet.

Haven't ever thought of it that way.

I would imagine that you could use the IP address. What would the syntax be?

useraccount@203.98.773.98? Worth a try. Let me know how it turns out.

One last thing, this is a staic ip I would imagine.

I have been doing this with outlook and netscape messenger, send it to the name ONLY, don't put any "@address", and it will come to the other mailbox.

This is correct. If the postman doesn't know where you live, he can't deliver mail to you. Please see the discussion of DNS and MX records in the User Manual.
