I have sucessfully setup E-Smith at home with e-mail working in both directions okay. I am using a dynamic IP at home.
We are trying to replace the server at work with E-Smith and can get on the WEB, and Send Mail but can not receive e-mail. We have a static IP address at work.
We took the IP addresses from the server we are replacing and used them in the E-Smith setup. The server acts like it is going out to check the mail, when I hit Send and Receive from Outlook Express (no failure notice) and sends e-mail anywhere fine.
Does anyone have any ideas what I should look for?
Any help appreciated!

I neglected to say we are using Version 4.0.

Probably a silly question, but are you sure there's mail there to receive? What happens when you try to send mail to that server from outside?

When I go to my personal e-mail account and send mail to my work account, Nothing happens........The mail does not bounce, nor does the e-smith server seem to get it.
Outlook Express does connect and seems to check for mail but nothing is ever returned. I can also send mail internally, from user to user, but not from outside to inside.
Mail works ok:
Internal to External
Internal to Internal
but not External to Internal.

What is the output of the following command:
nslookup -query=mx yourdomain.com
This will report from your DNS provider what your current mail mx settings are for your domain. My guess is this will show you that something doesn't match between your DNS provider settings and the e-smith server settings.

I have the same problem as Jim Johnson...
When I run that command line instruction it outputs:
Server: localhost
Address: 127.0.0.1
mydomain.com preference = 10, mail exchanger = mail.mydomain.com
mydomain.com nameserver = dns1.mydomain.com
mydomain.com nameserver = dns2.mydomain.com
mail.mydomain.com internet address =
dns1.mydomain.com internet address =
dns2.mydomain.com internet address =
......
The problem is that for my internal mail to be sent, I have to have the incoming and outgoing mail servers listed in the email application listed as: mail.e-smith.mydomain.com
Is this the problem???
It won't get the mail without the e-smith name in there... But it appears that the mx records aren't matching...
What should I do?
Thanks for your insights...
