Title: is there a way to access the shell via telnet on the private

I don't want to have to go to the box locally to add modules etc. is there a way to do this?

Well I think I did just that today, using the win98 telnet client: I just fired it up and told it to connect to the IP address of my e-smith server - nothing happened until I remembered that I had to enable telnet access in the server security settings. Once I did that (for local/private network only) and retried (with terminal type set to ANSI) I was presented with a login prompt, logged on as root as per manual, and could do all the dangerous things that  root can do!
