Title: zcat: stdout: Broken pipe
Post by: Eric Womack on February 27, 2001, 09:56:49 PM
I got this error message in my email box:

etc/cron.daily/makewhatis.cron:

zcat: stdout: Broken pipe

The zcat part repeated until the end of the message (about 100 of them).  What should I do?

Eric

Well, it seems I answered my own question.  The system has been running so well I got out of the habit of reading the bugs page.  In case anyone was wondering also, I will re-print it here:

/etc/cron.daily/makewhatis.cron reports errors to root/admin user
Applies to version: 4.1.1
Fixed in version: N/A
Problem:
When /etc/cron.daily/makewhatis.cron runs, it reports multiple errors:

zcat: stdout: Broken pipe

Temporary Fix:
Select the most appropriate solution for your situation:

If you do not intend to use the man page facility on your e-smith server, you can remove it by typing the following command at the console:

rpm -e man

If you need the man page facility, upgrade to the man rpm in RedHat 7.1 from your nearest RedHat Mirror Site.
You can ignore the messages if you choose. This bug does not affect the e-smith Server and Gateway's functionality whatsoever.
