I have upgraded to e-smith 4.1 and enabled 1 VPN via the remote access manager. I am attempting to connect via the Internet from a cable modem. I leave the network settings on my laptop the same as when at the local network. I am using Win 98 SE with IE 5.5 w/ 128 bit encryption. I connect to the Internet then attempt to VPN with the Microsoft VPN adapter. I have tried the Host name and Host IP address w/out success. I also have checked the "bugs page" for any VPN problems. Can anyone shed some light for me?
All help is greatly appreciated.

are you getting any error messages? What happens when you attempt to connect?

The dial up networking dialog box appears to be connecting and then is error with
"the vpn connection was denied" statement. Do you know how if there are any e-smith logs that can be checked. I am a Linux newbie so keep it simple.

check the manual to be sure that you have the correct security settings on the dialin side. e-smith is refusing the connection because of a security issue.

you mention ie5.0 with 128 bit encryption. fine. but that's not the 128 bit encryption that the manual is referring to under the vpn section.
you need to upgrade your *dial up networking* to 128 bit not ie5. you can do this from the microsoft.com product updates section.

Thanks, I found the DUN 128bit upgrade, however Microsoft has pulled it from their site to be re-released soon. I will wait until available.
