We have E-Smith 4.0 setup here at work, and it is working fine for the most
part. It allows WEB surfing, e-mail and printer access to almost everyone.
That's our problem, 10 out of 12 people can print to the configured printer
which is attached to the e-smith server on 'lp0'. When trying to connect for the
first time Windows asks for a password, and the 10 that work use the password for their account. When we try doing the same thing with the other 2, using their
passwords it isn't accepted and gives an 'password not valid' message. They can
however, send and receive e-mail using their password just like everyone else.
Has anyone run into this problem and if so have you worked it out or around
it? Or does E-Smith server limit the number of users who can access a printer?
Any help appreciated!
Jim
P.S. We'll be installing version 4.1.1 in the next week or two.

I had a similar problem, but I have only 5 users. I found that those users affected
didn't log in to Win98 with their accountname they have on my e-smith box.
I also know that the Username for Win95/98/NT itself is NOT casesensitive
as it is for Linux, Samba might also care about that.
There is also a passwd encryption thing with win98, there should be an
article in the ms-knowledgebase about samba and win98. It's about
editing the registry to enable plain passwd send within lan-manager.
hope this helps

This is not relevant to the e-smith server and gateway, which has always kept the alternative password database needed to handle win9x and winNT encrypted passwords.
