Hello all,
I installed my copy of e-smith 4.1.1 several weeks ago and tought that my nightly automated backup was ok. Today I wanted to reinstall my e-smith server and restore the tape backup. After restoring the tape and restarting the server I get some error saying that the configuration is inconsistent and not using the system in this state. I figured out that the data on my servers harddisk exceeded the capacity of my tape-cartridge. Strange enough I did not get any message from the server telling me to insert a second tape in the drive. Is this a serious problem with e-smith or di I overlook something. Does the backup system give me any notification when the tape is full and to insert the next backup-tape????
Or do I need to buy a higher capacity Tape-unit?

The nightly backup process e-mails the administrator (user=admin) with the results of every backup. What did these e-mails report? Did you know that you can redirect these e-mails via the e-smith-manager > Other e-mail settings > Forwarding address for administrative notices?

Hi Darrell,
I configured my mail client on one of my windows workstations and retrieved mesages from the mail server indicating: no space left on device, broken pipe in dump and dump completely aborted.
So, I do need tape device with higher capacity? I guess so...
Thanks for replying..
