Any news on this topic?, or does anybody have any experience?

I am working on this but have gotten stopped a couple of time because of bugs in the rpm package of jabber. Shortly they should have a package with all the know show stopping bugs out.
I have already taken the jabber.conf apart into templates, and have that mostly working and I have been running jabber on e-smith at work for almost 2 months.
I may need a bit of help packing the configuration into an rpm but it shouldn't be to dificult once we have a known working rpm of jabber to work with.

WOW! that sounds so kool. Is there instructions on how to install it into e-smith server?
Thanks.

currently no, it just the same as installing it onto a redhat server.
get the rpm, read thru the config file, set the setting to match your server.
try it, if it doesn't work get the how-to from jabber.org

Hi Tim,
I would love to help you, but unfortunatly I have no experience in making rpm's at all.

Thanks for your effort Tim.

So i have to create a rpm file to install it? Or can i just download and install from the web and do that -Uvh and the location thing? How do you edit stuff?
Thanks.

Hi,
I tried to install Jabber on my e-smith 4.1.2, but since it comes with no compilers and 'make' I had to install those first.
However, I have another machine with RH7 installed, which I used to install Jabber on, just to create the proper files. I then copied the 'new' jabber directory to my e-smith box with no problem. It works.
So i know it works, but it's not a 'pretty' way to install it and no way to reinstall it.
If anyone can make a RPM please let me know. I'v tried the RPM from jabber.org but it doesn't work.
ps. Editing options is done by 1 single text file 'jabber.xml' located in the jabber directory (After proper installation :-)
Thx.
