The following should work for 4.1 and later. Please report success/failure.
The e-smith-bpalogin below is a new version which had just been built. Note, it requires the perl Net::DNS module as it needs to use the BigPond nameservers to do the initial name lookups for the dce-server.
export BASE=ftp://ftp.e-smith.org/pub/e-smith/contrib/charlieb
rpm -i $BASE/RPMS/i386-RH6.2/bpalogin-1.3-2.i386.rpm
rpm -i $BASE/RPMS/i386-RH7.0/perl-Net-DNS-0.12-3.i386.rpm
rpm -i $BASE/RPMS/noarch/e-smith-bpalogin-1.3.0-02.noarch.rpm
Use the e-smith console to configure the external interface:
- Select PPPoE
- Enter your BPA username (just the username, not the domain)
- Enter your BPA password
- These values are used by bpalogin, but BPA does not use PPPoE
- Select to the external interface configuration
- Select "DHCP - send Ethernet address"
- Press to accept all further values and save configuration
- Check /var/log/messages for messages with the string "bpalogin"
If this doesn't work, please check the messages file above, /etc/bpalogin.conf and the bpalogin entry in /home/e-smith/configuration
Thanks,
Gordon

If what you mean is that you can't get authorised by your BPA Cable authentication server then yes I can help you out.
However I recommend you read the entire thread of where you originally posted as the answer is in there.
In that thread are all the IP numbers for QLD VIC NSW and even SA.
They are your authentication servers, that you need to login to.
try traceroute dce-server."state".bigpond.net.au
where "state" =VIC, NSW, QLD etc.
I did have to alter the original template to just get it to use my dce-server IP address.
I also had to alter the port.
Anyway Read the entire thread and all the answers should be outlined there.
If your still having problems post again.
Bye.
PS:Gordon what is the state of your review of the BPALogin module? As previously discussed.

I have e-smith 4.1 with my bigpond ADSL connection and it works fine without any problems at all. It wont work with versions 4.0 and lower as that dosn't have the PPPOE suport needed for the ADSL. E-smith will give you the choise as to what connection you have, select "pppoe adsl connection" then give it your username and password which is provided from telstra. And thats it.. it is really *that* easy!!!
Good work e-smith team.

Gordon, that worked great for me as well - thanks :)
Where does BPAlogin 2.0 fit into this?

BPALogin has been unreliable for me, and others. As soon as we are assured that it has been fixed, we will adjust e-smith-bpalogin if necessary, and recommend the later version of BPALogin.
