Hi all!
I have got my e-smith box running smoothly - except 2 problems:
1) Printer Problem
I can't get my 2 printers - one HP LaserJet and one Canon BJC 6200 - working.
Since my server machine only had got 1 LTP Port I've bought a replikator card for the ISA bus. I set the onboard LTP1 Port to run in SPP Mode with IRQ set to 7
By jumpering the Card I set the LTP2 Port to the same Mode and specified IRQ 15 for it.
Afterwards I've configured my 2 printers in the e-smith-manager.
But when I try to access the printers with my Windows 2000 Clients I cannot print from them, because of no job could be created in the printing queue.
I'm sorry I can post the original error message in english, but I'm from Austria and therefore I use W2K OS in German Language.
"Die Testseite konnte nicht gedruckt werden. Es konnte kein Druckauftrag erstellt werden."
2) Domain Logons with W2K Clients
How can I log in to my network with the userstats from e-smith.
Eg.: I've created a user david and now want to log on to the w2k station with that information - access to shared ibays etc should be granted automatically.
I've also tried to update the samba server as suggested somewhere on this board, but I didn't succeed in joining the domain. If domain logons are not possible with 4.1.2 I would like to know how long it will take till this function is integrated in the standard e-smith release, without having to juggle with rpm updates and config Files.
If someone could give me a hand I would be very happy!
With best regards
David

I have an old Canon laser(LBP 8 111 R) and it works fine-even duplex and all........But my Canon BJC 5100 wont do anything.....it seems it is a winprinter ...you may have been caught to. I DO NOT intend to buy any more bloody Canon things.

It's not Canon's fault.
They make some good "real" printers too.

I think you'll find that most of the major manufacturers make "winprinters". I actually find Canon printers to be *very* reliable, and very fast. I've still got an old BJ-200ex here which I use in preference to my DeskJet 670C for B&W prints because it's a *hell* of a lot faster.

okay - so as far as I can see noone has succeeded in getting one of the newer canon printers to work with linux or e-smith. It's a pitty that it does not work with linux...
However I also cannot print with my laserjet which is surely not a winprinter.
Where can I find logs or anything that could give me a hint concerning this problem? Please help!

I only wish that thay told us first. That way we could buy maybe a different model.

When they know EVERYTHING, they will tell you first.
