Title: Upgrade 4.1.1 to 4.1.2
Post by: Benny Andersen on May 20, 2001, 07:42:58 AM
I Have recently recieved the latest version of e-smith server gateway and looking to update both servers. Is there anything that I should be aware of in the way of not loosing virtual domains and general site settings on my current instalation. One machine has very little and a clean install would not be a problem but the other machines is hosting customer sites and I do not want to disrupt their content.

Thanks
Benny

Other then a generic 'make a backup first' rule, e-smith 4.1.2 does not permit php in the primary ibay.  This requires an update, e-smith-base-4.4.0-14.noarch.rpm, available at the ftp site which should be added after the 4.1.2 upgrade.

Hi Darrell
Thanks, we did the upgrade with no problems at all, we have not done the noarch as yet as I am not sure how to run an rpm more research is required.

Installing an RPM is quite simple: download it to your e-smith server, login as root, then use "rpm -i whatever.rpm" to install it.  If it's an upgrade (as this is) you'll want "rpm -U whatever.rpm"  The extra options -v and -h are useful too, so what you really want is: "rpm -Uvh whatever.rpm"
