Title: e-smith on linux

Hi

I have Red Hat Linux 5.0 installed on Pentium box and it got corrupted. So i thought it would be good chance to install E-smith on it. I started the PC with e-msith boot disk and it boots with that and asks for the linux CD..

Can any one help me how to install e-smith on linux os.

Did you try just booting from the e-smith CD?  Is the CD in the drive?  Just a couple of guesses...

HI

I did tried to boot from E-smith CD but it was not booting. So i have created the boot floppy from CD and used it. The system came up with that boot floppy and asked me to enter the accept command after that it started loading default files for E-smith then it is asking for Linux CD.

Pls help me.

Just get a DOS boot floppy and fdisk all partitions away, or if DOS fdisk doesn't cut it, use a Linux toolkit such as tomsrtbt.  Failing that, get a utilities disk from your hard drive manufacturer and wipe it with that (for instance, Western Digital has a cute li'l utility that writes all zeroes to the drive, effectively wiping out everything.)

Then boot from your e-smith CD and go, go go.

Try aefdsk.zip at http://www.tuzvo.sk/ftp/utility/general/, a command line driven disk partitioning program. I use it whenever I want to return a hard drive to a Win OS.

Mabey your e-smith cd is bad...
you could try to reburn the iso.

I run in the same problem a while ago. I found out that the floppy i used was not perfectly free of bad sectors. I solved the problem by using a new and error free floppy disk. After that the question about inserting the RedHat CD was gone and e-smith starting installation as should be.
