Title: e-smith as mail backup server
Post by: Timothée Bastin on June 26, 2001, 02:38:24 PM
Hi,

I would like to use the e-smith server of a friend of mine as mail backup server for my domain and vice versa. I know I have to edit the mx record in my dns settings and have to edit something in qmail. But is there anyone who can explain me how to edit qmail for this? Or do I need to modify more files?

TIA,

Timothée

Timothee, myself and a partner would also like to have reciprocal mail backups using our e-smith boxes.

I also found a couple notes about other's attempts. If you have this working can you confirm/clarify a couple points:

1) Each host needs to add the other as a virtual domain
2) Any customizations to enable "mail relaying" required?
3) Each domain needs to have their secondary MX point to the other's IP.
4) The mail should automatically be routed & stored on the secondary's box and forwarded as the other's primary box once it (the primary) resumes connectivity.
5) Anything else?

Thanks in advance, Aaron

Well, I don't have much time for a couple of weeks but when I get this working I will write a howto about this :)
