Title: hard disk size
Post by: Shaukat Manji on July 16, 2001, 11:48:37 PM
Hi All,
I want to use e-smith as a gateway and a samba file server.
Can anyone tell me if there's a limitation on the hard disk size?
Thanks
Shaukat

No limitation that I've heard of; I know of installations up to 40GB.

Hard Disk limitationd depends mostly on your motherboard's bios, so if you are working with an old machine you will probably notice some limitation, but as far as I know there is no software limit to handle big drives..

i had two 20 gigs ata 66 hard drives installed in and e-smith box and used the software raid1 that comes with e-smith, it worked great, up time on the install was 75 days. i removed the 20gig hard drives and installed two 30 gig ata 100 hard drives and set them up just as i did in the 20 gig setup. it did not work. it would only show that i had a 15 gig hard drive installed. both the 20 gig drives were the same and so were the 30 gig drives. all WD. at this time i'm running a single 30gig drive and it is working great. i would like any help on getting the two 30 gig drives running in software raid1.

good luck
