Does anyone have any experience using the trust-accounts contrib? I have successfully added a machine account using:
useradd -c 'win2k workstation' -M -s /bin/false -n workstationname$
I was able to join the domain, map drives etc, but had problems saving my profile when logging off. Then I installed the trust accounts contrib and used it to create a new compuer account called test1, removed my computer from the domain, changed the name to test1 and rebooted. When I attempted to add my new computer name (test1) to the domain I received an error saying that I should use the global user account. Normally I would use the root account with the smb password which is what I tried when I received that message, I also tried the admin account with the same result. I am running Samba 2.2.0.....I am downloading 2.2.1a right now....maybe it will help. Any ideas?

I don't know anything about the trust-accounts contrib, but I've written a HOWTO for upgrading to Samba 2.2.1a, including modifying the configuration to automatically create the machine accounts as necessary. It's at http://www.familybrown.org/howtos/samba-upgrade-howto.html.
