Title: BIOS hack...
Post by: Steve on July 31, 2001, 11:59:55 PM
I have a JETWAY J-542C motherboard with an Award BIOS. My server will not reboot w/ keyboard removed. It sits waiting for an F1 or del keystroke. I have gone all through the BIOS settings to enable keyboardless operation w/out success. Does anyone know of a BIOS hack or workaround?

hello steve,

are you sure that you have set the option in standars CMOS settings :: Halt on  = All errors (generally towards the end) must be set to "No errors" in 90% of the cases this should work, except for some branded machines.

cheers,
aniston.

If you're handy with a soldering iron or are lucky enough to find one pre-made down at your local electronics store, it's possible to get a keyboard 'stub'. This device is simply a keyboard plug rewired so that the BIOS 'sees' a working keyboard.

here is a novel idea, keyboards are really  worth nothing.... just leave  one plugged in and stash it behind the server!

Mr. ed sharpe archivist for SMECC,

keyboards are very inexpensive, however the idea of running a headless server is to remove the monitor and keyboard, not just stash it. Lets be novel and use the device as it is intended. Anyway a keyboard left stashed at a clients site is temptation for the curious to futz with the darn thing.

G'day
