Title: install without floppy or cd, can i use usb?
Post by: John Goodwin on August 12, 2001, 07:01:56 PM
Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone knows a way to install e-smith using a usb device such as a usb cd drive.  I'm trying to build a server and I don't need a cd drive post installation.  I really don't want to install a cddrive just for the install and then have to remove it since I will be building several machines with this configuration.  On a related topic, has anyone had success with getting external 56k modems working with e-smith?

Thanks,
John Goodwin

installing from your usb/cdr is not an option but you can always open the dam thing to find out that inside you have a nice ide cdr (the usb thing is juste a bridge). Now put that inside your machine, install and put it back inside de usb cassing (not as tough as it may sound).

ps: you will probablly have no probleme with your external modem

sorry for my spelling i am french...

I'm using a Motorola ext 56k modem now. 3Com and others work well also. Just figure out which com port you are hooking it up to. I'm using com 1, tty0 in the set-up routine. It was easier than setting up the internal modem.
E-mail me directly if you need any real help.
