I am trying to VPN from a Win98SE PC (with the latest 128bit DUN installed), behind a Netgear RT311 ADSL router to my e-smith 4.1.2 at home. Both ends use ADSL and have a dynamic IP address. I get the message"The computer you're dialing in to does not support the data encryption requirements specified etc. ......".
I have tried most variations of the settings in DUN and am starting to think that the RT311 may need to be setup correctly. Several months ago I managed to connect to this same server using Win98SE and a 56K modem but was disappointed with slow access. Hence I am now experimenting with ADSL-ADSL.
Does anyone have any experience with this scenario.?

If your RT311 is doing NAT it probably won't work unless you can configure it to masq PPTP.

Yep - End of story. For the sake of the Forum Archives - I configured the NAT port/address table in the RT311, to specify port forwarding of port 1723 to the internal address of my WinPC and it worked like a charm (Wish I had RTFM). Mind you, maybe I'm fussy but it was only just fast enough, and that's 512K connecting to 1500K.
