I am planning to rebuild my e-smith server, and would like to use RAID 1 (mirror). I know this can be done with the software, but I was hoping to use a hardware controller. Is anybody aware of a hardware controller that is supported by Red Hat 7.0, hence compatible with e-smith. I know some SCSI adapters are available, along with some high end RAID 5 controllers from Adaptec for IDE drives, but I only need a controller with RAID 0, 1, 0+1 for IDE ATA100 drives. Any help would be appreciated.

Check the e-smith HCL; the 3ware cards seem to be a good bet. ~$250 for a 4-port model.

I agree with Dan we use the above 3Ware cards and e-smith just finds them and its as simlle as that

e-smith HCL ? The manual only mentions SCSI apadters. Can you advise where the HCL is located. Or btter still, product code of the 3ware card you are using

Well, I know I've seen it somewhere, but I can't find it now. I'm not personally using a 3ware card, but I've seen many good reports from users of the 3Ware Escalade cards. The 6000 series support UDMA 66, while the 7000 series support UDMA 100 (not really much of a difference, it seems). Other than that, it's just a matter of how many ports you want--the 6200 is 2 ports, the 6400 is 4, and the 6800 is 8.

Hi James
We use the 6000 series of cards with software for Linux supplied with it
