Title: D-Link 538 TX
Post by: Des Dougan on August 24, 2001, 11:10:46 AM
In looking through the forum archive, I've found several references to the D-Link 538TX NIc as working well with e-smith. I have a problem with one and would appreciate any help I can get!

The card was successfully recognized by the configuration as an RTL8139 (or is it 8193?) and on reboot, shows the link light active, but only until the network start-up script executes, at which point it goes out.

The card works fine under Windows, the diagnostics run cleanly, as expected, and I've checked the card configuration and all seems fine.

The card is using IRQ11, while the internal NIC is using IRQ12. I note this for information, as I suspect there is a conflict somewhere.

Any ideas, anyone?

Thanks,

Des Dougan

May not help, but IRQ 12 is traaditionally used for the PS2 mouse. Can you boot to DOS, and set/clear the values?

Allen,

Thanks for your reply. You mis-read my note - the working card is on IRQ 12, while the external card on IRQ 11 is the one giving the problem.

Title: Re: D-Link 538 TX/R ?

look to see if your card is not a D-Link 538 TX/R the /R means revision and i was never able to get those to work under any *nix event whit special driver from d-link or the one from the rtl8139 driver site. My advice go for a cheaper card base on rtl8139 those one tend to stay whit the realtek base board whitout modifing it like d-link do. you can get a smartlink 10/100 for 15$ cnd and they work every time.
