Title: Mail setup using dyndns
Post by: Dan on September 07, 2001, 06:28:23 PM
Hi,
I'm trying to setup me e-smith server to act as a mail server using dyndns.org to give me a domain name   xxxxx.homeip.net

I'm using Telstra Bigpond Cable  for my network connection.

The problem I have is that any test messages I send to or from an account eg: user@xxxxx.homeip.net are never recieved at the other  end (no bounce messages either).

Can anyone help me through the configuration.

I'm a relative newcommer to linux in general so I'm probbably missing somthing simple.

Thanks in advance

Have you published xxx.homeip.net as the mailserver for your
homeip.net domain?  If not dns has no way of knowing how to
get mail to your server.

Unless you have a fixed IP it's not recommended you use your
e-smith server as a genuine mailserver.  Far more reliable to
delegate that task to your ISP and then use mail retrieval
settings in the web manager to collect your mail.

I'm not sure if I've  published xxx.homeip.net as the mailserver for my homeip.net domain correctly. Do you mean entering xxx.homeip.net as the mail exchanger in the record on the dyndns.org website? Or do I need to enter that info into e-smith somewhere?

Thanks
