Title: VPN problems
Post by: Dan Mikinson on September 11, 2001, 01:59:51 AM
Here is the situation:

Remote Computer ---- (VPN) ---- Server ---- to computer inside network

Using a computer on the LAN, when I click on Network Neighborhood, I can see the remote computer, but when I click it... it can't connect to it.

How can I enable this in the firewall?

What's wrong?

Have you shared anything on the remote computer? If you haven't shared anything you can't connect to anything, but can still 'see' the computer.

I've frequently had problems BROWSING a remote LAN.  In fact I generally don't even try.

If you know what you want, just map the resource and move on.  Otherwise, you have to mess around with WINS, etc. etc.  Using the IP address bypasses the whole NETBIOS address resolution thing.

Ex:

net use F: \192.168.1.22\company

or

net use LPT3: \192.168.1.22\hplasr

I guess I'd appreciate knowing more about these things if someone can clue me in...
