I have upgraded my samba files per the howto. I get the following error when trying to join my winXP computer to the sme5.0 domain...
The following error occured....
Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed. Disconnect all previous connections to the server or shared resource and try again.
I tried disconnecting all connections, but I still get this error....

Ok, I rebooted winXP and that error is gone. But now I get "access denied" error.
Has anyone gotten this to work?

Hi,
Try disconnecting from the domain. Disconnect all shares with the domain or server. Reboot XP. Joing the domain again.
Hope this helps,
HFW

I still get "access denied" errors. Is it even possible to connect winXP to esmith domain?

Bill,
I do not think Samba 2.2.1a can handle authentication for Windows XP clients, but you should check the Samba website at http://samba.org/ for confirmation.

No idea; I don't have (or want, really) a copy of WinXP to play with, so I can't test it, and I don't remember seeing much hard info on the samba lists. Sorry.

I think they changed the way you log on.
Remember that the version 2.0 of samba was ok for winnt 4.0 authentification but we had to install 2.2.1 for win2000 clients.
Do you really think microsoft will let administrators "keep" their old winnt 4.0 ou win 2000 servers.. No no no.. you have to pay to get a copy of the brand new and very exiting windows xp server !!
;-) See you

I have read on Deja that it is possible to get it working, though none of the solutions seem to work with my SME5 installation. So yes it is possible, but no I don't know how to get it to work with esmith.

Just to let everyone know, there is an updated samba howto in the contribs that solved my problem.
