Title: SME v5 Features?
Post by: Sidney on September 25, 2001, 05:46:09 PM
Hello,

   My question is..
What is deference between 4.1.2 and SME v5 ?

I understand that there are service links but is there other features and can you explain what they do?

Also could you tell me if the rpm made for 4.1.2 will work with v5?

Is there any fixes in the new verion?

Thanks

http://www.e-smith.org/docs/manual/5.0/whatsnew.html

In addition to ordering Mitel's extra services with ServiceLink, the biggest changes are some new administration features available in the web interface and the Blades system (http://www.e-smith.org/docs/manual/5.0/blades.html), which are basically web-installation packages. Just click the "install" link, and everything is installed and configured. If you follow the link from the front page, you'll see that this is how Update One for V5 is installed. Once installed, the link changes to "remove", and clicking itt removes that feature. You can still install other programs from the command line, but ones that have been set up for the Blades system are just that much easier to install.

A lot of 4.1.2 packages don't work with 5.  Even though, SME5 is essentially 4 with the pay-for-use services added on.

This will change as developers are given a change to try to adapt their programs to work with SME5.
