Hello folks,
I am swapping out the hard drive on my server, where I have got 4 post-nuke sites running. The problem I am having is that once I get the drive formatted, and after I get the configuration straight and restore the backup, install the e-smith-base and awstats RPMs, none of the sites work.
The symptoms are as follows:
1. #mysqlshow does not show the databases.
2. I can not access phpmyadmin even after I change the root PW in /html/config.inc.php
I am thinking that when the backup was made, all of the passwords were backed up as well making it so that the new mysql root PW is not compatable with the backed-up databases. It seems like with the passwords not matching, the fresh install will not pick up the databases because it has no access to them.
I suppose that if I go in and change the passwords before backing up, i would be good to go, but im not sure. I would appreciate any help on this, as I already have had too much downtime yesterday and I have got people coming to the sites pretty regularly.
Thanks in advance,
Steve MacGregor

OK, here we go again. It seems that in practice my theories did not quite work right. I re-installed 4.1.2 on the 'new' drive. I added all of the update rpms, had everything in place, and it was working fine, except my users were not there, and neither was anything else. Primary worked fine with the little e-smith starter page. Email worked. Manager worked. It was a nice clean installation. I thin added the DBs for my sites, modified the passwords to correspond with the way I had everything when I did the backup. It was very tight... but then, as I had thought previously, having everything set up ready to go, I imported the backup. I tried getting to any old page, and I could not even get install.php to come up either in the ibays or in primary. Effectively, nothing was working - even the email was not working right as outlook was not able to suply the correct passwords.
I am left with one thought: Build a fesh install and configure it all new like I was doing fresh postnue installs, create the DBs and add in the dumps from the old drive. Add all my users, groups and ibays by hand. I know it would work that way, but it would take forever to do that. If anyone could help out with a tip or a question, it would be of great assistance.
thanks,
steve
