All,
By looking at the forum its really scary to upgrade from 4.1.2 to 5.0.
Has any body succeeded without any problems? I dont have a standby
system to try the upgrade. I am primarily using the e-smith 4.1.2 for
webmail application. Can anybody help me in how I can back up the
emails of the users. Once that is done I will do a fresh install of the 5.0
and copy back all the users emails to thier respective folders. I am not
sure the above mentioned will work. Can anybody help me in this regard.

If you are using multidrop email, V5 is not quite ready yet. Stick to 4.1.2. The rest looks fairly solid.

So stay with 4.1.2

Yes! .... Well, at least until Mitel sort out the problems with fetchmail.

Sorted! This and other critical mail bugs have been fixed in SMEServer-5.0_Update2. See

All,
From Rich's response I understand that almost all of the bugs have been
fixed. After Upgrading from 4.1.2 to 5.0 do I have to patch certain RPMS
from the ftp site?
Instead of upgrading I am thinking of fresh install. But I need to backup
all the users emails and folders.
Is ther any "How to" to backup only the emails of the users in the server.
Can anybody point that to me. After taking the backup, how to copy it
back to the upgraded 5.0 server? Do I have to create webmail users and folders
again? I saw in some of the froum postings some file permissions have to be
taken care off. what are those? Is there any "How to" to restore the emails and
the respective folders of each email users?
My server is filled with 1000 of emails and I dont want to take the risk of
upgrading it to 5.0 with failures. At the same time I dont want to lag behind
the new version. Can anybody help me in this regard.

Hello All
Upgrading 4.1.2 to 5.0 worked. I am able to backup my emails using
the backup/restore utility in the e-smith manager 4.1.2. I upgraded to 5.0
the machine rocks now. I see quite a bit of speed improvement accessing
the webmail. I have the following email sent by Cron Daemon to the root id.
To root@wwitech.com
Subject Cron run-parts /etc/cron.daily
Parts Message Source
/etc/cron.daily/tmpwatch:
error: lstat() of directory /var/cache/man/X11R6/cat? failed: No such file or directory
What does the above line mean????

Did you upgrade or do a clean install of V5, and then a restore of your 4.1.2 user/files/data/config?
