Hi
I have the follow problem with remote-access over PPTP:
I set on the e-smith-server 10 user to connect over PPTP.
On the windowsclient I istall the "Microsoft VPN Adapter".
The I connect first to the internet, then I connect the dial-up connection with login/password and the ip-address from the e-smith-server.
The I get the Error 645. I can't connect...
What do I wrong?
Please I need every help until Monday, 1th October 2001.
Thank You

Quick question :
Have you applied the latest DUN update from Microsoft ? To use VPN through ESSG, you the encryption needs to be at 128bits (hence the latest DUN update).

I've the same problem and I have the 128bits update (I check with Internet Explorer -> help..).

IS,
I might be wrong, but I think the DUN update is not the same thing as your IE5 Cipher Strength. I think the current version of DUN is 1.4 which you can download from Microsoft. Try applying it and see if you have the same problem after.

Hi IS hi Kelvin Lee
I try out on Monday with the DUN V 1.4
Here You get some information about it. It's not easy to find it.

Hi Kelvin Lee
I have the same problem. But in the Log-file
/var/log/messages
I get the line
"MPPE 40 bit, stateless transmit compression enabled"
And the error in Windows I have is "Error 742"
So I think it means that I don't have 128-bit. But I try out more...
Thanks

you are attempting to upgrade the wrong cipher strength. ie 128 bit encryption is independent of the dun encryption. the easiest way to upgrade dun encryption is by running the windows update application, privacy and licensing issues aside. the 128 bit upgrade is about half way down the page.

Where can I find the DUN version installed in my Windows box ?

dunno. but if you run windows update the upgrade option will be checked or greyed out if you have already upgraded to 128 bit encryption.
