Title: FTP server question
Post by: Janek on October 01, 2001, 06:29:24 PM
Hi Everybody!
Probably this is novice question. I installed SME Server v.5.0. Only server. And
now I' d like to make a ftp account to my friend. He wants to put for me some big files. But is it possible that if  he logs in, he can see only one directory - no more (Home, Maildir, etc)? The e-mail, i-bays is not interestinf for us.
With Best Regards,
Janek.

I think you'll have to modify the cfg file by yourself since E-Smith shows everything from : /etc/e-smith/files/

Or you can just make some groups and permissions so he can move in your directories but not 'till your files.. neither delete the directories...

ps: The swiss I am is wondering what is the difference between Directory and Folder.. Can someone help :)) LoooL

A directory is what used to be called in the command line unix and dos time.

Since the mac (or the first popular Graphical User Interface or GUI, whatever it is), the directory is also synonym to folder as the graphical icon representing the directory was a small file folder icon.

Most other graphical GUIs since then (GEM, Windows, AmigaOS...) have done the same as it makes sense for humans to relate to file folders.

This is not a true historical thesis of the subject but I hope it helps.

Serge.

Hi!
I'm sorry, but what is 'mc'? If I log in as admin, the Server Console gomes to the screen automatically...
